US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has apologised for his “ill-advised” remarks at a press conference about North Korea.

In a news conference during the G20 summit in Germany, Mr Tillerson said his comment about North Korea’s recent nuclear test had been “mischaracterised”.

He has also ordered that North Korea is “on notice” that military action will not be tolerated.

However, Mr Tillerson said China had “always been our number-one diplomatic ally” in the relationship.
