An Ottawa couple were left with more than $18,000 in damage when their two-car, black Dodge Journey veered off the road and smashed into a tree.
The accident happened around 4:30 a.m. Sunday on the 400 block of Laurier Street south of Borden Avenue.
Police said the father, 68-year-old Edward John, was asleep at the wheel, while his 64-year-old mother was making breakfast and their two young children, aged 4 and 2, were inside.
Their car was stopped.
‘We were just in a state of shock,’ said David John, the family’s grandson.
‘This is the first time we’ve had an accident while the kids were in the car.’
David John thinks the car was going 70 kilometres an hour when the father lost control and veered off the road. (Andrew Foote/CBC)
“It was a pretty good accident,” said David John. “We were just in a state of shock.”
