The law defines only two types of dogs – companions and service dogs. When someone brings a pet into your home, they must obtain a permit that states in detail what the dog will do. Each type of pet will be checked separately. Companion pets that are kept outside on a leash must also carry a rabies license. Service animals must be properly licensed in a state where the service animal is allowed.
How much notice must I keep an animal for?
People must be given at least 14 days to move the animal out of their home. If the animal becomes too sick or uncomfortable, owners can keep the animal for as long as you’re keeping it. If the animal has medical issues that aren’t life-threatening, you must make certain the animal gets medical care as soon as possible.
Can pets go in and out of people’s homes?
People have an inherent right. But to protect others, it’s important to ensure animals are safe to walk in and out of your home and that they’re able to communicate well enough to interact with humans, as well. To do so, you must comply with regulations and policies governing your state.
