Your tattoo will look like “no skin,” as is your body. You will definitely be in some pain, but with treatment you may see some improvement in the signs and symptoms of your tattoo. It’s an interesting side effect that will probably make you think twice about getting tattooed again, since having a “skin” problem may not seem like such a bad thing.
How does tattoo removal work?
Before you get a laser tattoo, you must go through a process to make sure that the laser will not damage your skin. This is the same way that a skin laser system works – laser radiation is converted into heat. The skin around your tattoo produces a bit of heat by itself and it radiates it out to the laser, causing the laser to heat up. Then, this heat radiates to the tattoo, making it more sensitive to pain and the laser to heat up more. It takes a certain amount of heat to penetrate through the tattoo, but this can be adjusted.
What happens if I have an allergic reaction?
The heat produced by tattoo removal is dangerous. However, your reaction to this heat can be very mild. It is possible that you will have a mild reaction. Contact a doctor or pharmacist if you develop swelling, redness, pain, inflammation or loss of touch sensation in your hand for 48 hours.
If you are allergic to latex or have an allergic reaction to a tattoo removal laser, your laser may burn or sting for a short period of time. This is why you must use your laser cautiously in any circumstance that involves contact with tattooed skin or is close to a tattoo site. If you have a tattoo wound on your finger, avoid touching it. It is not likely to cause an allergic reaction. And, of course, if you have an allergy to other substances such as latex, you must always follow the directions for the laser treatment you are doing.
