My own personal weight loss experience has been one of the best things I’ve ever done. I’ll never know exactly how it happened, but I do know that a healthy and active lifestyle and the right approach have enabled me to lose a lot of weight over the past few years. A few years ago, I was down around 180 pounds from 280 when I started running. Now, I get up for races at 200-220 every time I go for a run. I’m even a little bit closer to my goal than I used to be.

My body is much healthier and leaner than it was when I started running. I still do my workouts just as I did before, but I also have a different perspective and enjoy competing in races. I was also very lucky in a lot of ways. My wife is the only person who knows my personal workouts and my personal goals. My sister-in-law is super supportive. I’m lucky to have those kinds of people with me.


There is no one-size-fits-all solution to the weight loss paradox. You have to choose your lifestyle differently from person to person and have a balanced diet with some simple exercise to stay on track.

I also had the opportunity to do some research on my own about the relationship between diet and exercise. I found a study that looked at how diet affects obesity levels in a group of overweight adults and women in a single population. The participants lost almost half their weight over the course of 90 days and gained all that weight back during the follow-up.

The study also took into account other lifestyle factors as well. For instance; participants who smoked more were more likely to lose weight than those who did not smoke. They were also significantly more likely to be exercising when the study began. It seems that there is a direct connection between body size, diet, and exercise.

This was what inspired me to make the decision to start running again. My goal was to lose a few hundred pounds. I have since lost another 100, I think I’m close to hitting that, and now my body is definitely leaner then it was in 2011. I was able to keep in very good shape until this point by taking only very simple steps. I would take a quick shower at the gym in the morning and then run the race, not eat for 5 hours and then eat. I wasn’t doing any cardio.
